Women-focused SMME development programme
Imbokodo Iyazenzela is Ithala’s women-focused SMME development programme, dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs across KwaZulu-Natal. The initiative primarily serves women in rural communities and townships, providing inspiration, practical business guidance, mentorship and access to opportunities that support entrepreneurship and sustainable business growth.
Whether starting a new venture or growing an existing business, participants benefit from expert advice, networking opportunities and resources designed to help them succeed.
A key feature of the programme is the Imbokodo Iyazenzela Entrepreneurial Excellence Competition, which celebrates and rewards outstanding women-owned businesses that are making a meaningful impact in their communities. The competition is open to businesses that are:

Launched in 2015, Imbokodo Iyazenzela has travelled throughout KwaZulu-Natal in partnership with key stakeholders, bringing workshops directly to women in townships and rural areas. By taking the programme into communities, Ithala continues to create accessible opportunities for women to gain the knowledge, confidence and support needed to build resilient businesses and contribute to inclusive economic development.
